Understanding Aerial Lift Load Charts and Rated Capacities

Learn how to read load charts for boom lifts, scissor lifts, and telehandlers for safe operations.

Why Load Charts Matter

Load charts define maximum weight at every boom or platform position. Exceeding rated capacities can cause tip-over, structural failure, or hydraulic damage.

Boom Lift Load Charts

Show capacity at various height and reach combinations. Understand unrestricted capacity, restricted capacity, and platform capacity.

Scissor Lift Capacity

Single rated platform capacity at all heights. Outdoor use may have wind speed restrictions.

Telehandler Load Charts

Most complex: capacity changes with both height and reach. An 8,000 lb rated machine may only support 2,500 lbs at maximum reach.

Best Practices

Never estimate. Always consult the load chart. Keep a copy on the machine. Factor in all weights.
